01 / THE SITUATIONStart with the
actual problem.
LoriComunica helps people with speech or motor impairments communicate. Research and prototype testing exposed a mismatch between the product’s capabilities and what people could actually discover and use. Separate board and card management, onboarding friction, and caregiver needs made a capable tool harder to adopt.
02 / THE DECISIONSThe work behind
the outcome.
01Put the communication task first.
I rebuilt the interface around a clearer first-run journey, accessible boards, and a unified way to make and use cards. The goal was to let someone reach a meaningful communication action before setup complexity took over.
02Prototype the surrounding care workflow.
The interactive v3 prototype explores role selection, caregiver views, custom cards, phrase building, board sharing, and voice experiences. It makes the research decisions tangible enough to test and discuss.
03Connect design to delivery.
I also worked on Python/FastAPI/PostgreSQL backend prototypes, clinic field testing, localized delivery considerations, and a 12-month US/Brazil clinic partnership plan.

04 / MY CONTRIBUTIONHands on.
People with me.
I led the research-informed UI overhaul and built the interactive front-end prototype provided here. I also contributed backend prototypes and worked through the product and partner questions around adoption.

05 / WHAT CHANGEDWhat came out of it.
The UX overhaul recorded 93% user preference in the project research. The working prototype shows the revised interaction model and supports discussion of communication and caregiver flows; the team also produced a clinic go-to-market plan.
CONTEXT & LIMITSThe linked prototype is an exploratory demonstration with sample data, not LoriComunica’s production app. Preference is an experience measure, not a claim of clinical efficacy or realized paid conversion. Features explored in the prototype should not be read as shipped product features.
